Healthdata was also available as a disc based offline database, also in the viewdata format.  It seems as if it was mostly a copy of the online content, so we present it here for your delight and access..

    Guide to E numbers                  
                                        
                                        
    Many food additives approved for use
 in EEC countries may be referred to by 
 a code number prefixed by an E. Many   
 other additives used in this country   
 have an approved number, but no E.     
                                        
    The number gives an indication as to
 why it has been added to the food.     
                                        
    E 100 to 199 are colourings         
                                        
    E 200 to 299 are preservatives      
                                        
    E 300 t0 399 are anti-oxidants      
                                        
    E 400 to 499 are added to change the
 texture of food.
