Coughs and Colds The best way to soothe an irritating cough or to clear a thick discharge from the nose is to inhale steam. Get a bowl of steaming water and breathe in the steam with a towel over your head. Do this as often as you like but take care not to get scalded. If you have a fever you should take paracetamol - ask your pharmacist. You should drink plenty, even if you don't feel like eating very much.
