Cervical Cancer The Smear Test The cervix is the part of the uterus that projects into the vagina. Cervical cancer can be cured if it is detected in the early stages. The smear test can show the very earliest changes in the cells taken from the cervix. Smear tests should be taken when sexual activity starts and then about every 2-3 years. Your doctor can do the test or you can go to any well women or family planning clinic.
